Coyotes

May 9, 2005 - The Billerica Police Department has received a large volume of calls regarding Coyotes residing in the town. Coyotes are well established throughout most of Massachusetts, including Billerica.

Coyotes thrive in suburban/urban as well as rural areas, and will utilize whatever food is naturally available, including small animals, birds, insects and fruits, as well as artificial sources such as garbage, pet food, birdseed and compost. Please take precautions to eliminate any food sources in your yard and neighborhood to avoid creating problems with these animals. Never deliberately provide food for Coyotes!

Please do not call the police department to report sitings, etc, we already know they exist in Billerica. Citizens should only call the police during an emergency involving these animals. Otherwise, calls should be directed to the following agencies:

Billerica Animal Control @ 978-671-0909

Massachusetts Environmental Police @ 800-632-8075

For more information about Coyotes please visit the MassWildlife Coyote Webpage.
